Causal explanation

    There are several types of explanation text, one of which is causal explanation text. Causal explanation text is a type of writing that explains the cause-and-effect relationship between events, actions, or phenomena. It focuses on identifying the reasons why something happens (causes) and the outcomes that result from those reasons (effects). This type of text is commonly used in scientific, historical, or technical contexts to help the reader understand how and why specific processes or events occur.

Generic Structure:

1. Introduction: States the topic or phenomenon being explained.

2. Causes: Describes the reasons or factors leading to the event or condition.

3. Effects: Explains the results or consequences.

4. Conclusion: Summarizes the explanation or highlights the significance.


Language Features

1. Causal Conjunctions and Connectives:Used to link causes and effects.

Examples: because, since, as a result, therefore, consequently, due to, so, thus.

2. Present Tense:Often written in the simple present tense to explain general truths or ongoing phenomena.

Example: Volcanic eruptions occur when magma rises to the surface.

3. Technical Terms:Specific vocabulary related to the topic.

Example: photosynthesis, tectonic plates, greenhouse gases.

4. Action Verbs:Describes processes or actions.

Example: heats, rises, causes, triggers. 

5. Passive Voice:Used to focus on the process or event rather than the doer.

Example: The land is eroded by water over time.

6. Logical Sequencing:Ideas are presented in a logical order, often following a chronological or step-by-step progression.

7. Factual Information:Based on facts and objective data to explain the phenomenon.

Example: The Earth’s atmosphere contains 78% nitrogen.
