Analyzing Explanation Text about How is Flooding Happened


1. General Information

Flooding is a disaster that is very common in big Cities that are densely populated. In Indonesian, floods occur very frequently and hit the city of Jakarta and often claimed many victims. Then, do you know how the flood process ocured? Considere the following explanation.

Note: This section is classified as a general statement because the text introduces the topic of flooding in general. Where floods often occur in Jakarta. And this section describes the frequency of flood impacts on the population. This context helps establish understanding of the explanation that follows.


 2. Explanation Sequence

The process of natural flooding can be started with rain falling to the surface of the earth.furthemore, the rain enters the ground and flows to a lower place.after that there is evaporation and then the water comes out of the surface of the land. Floods that occur naturally can be a disaster for humans, when floods hit their dwellings because of the flood that dragged objects, houses, bridge, furniture, and even humans.


 Causal Explanation

In addition, the process of non- natural flooding can usually be caused due to bad habits of humans.who don't care about the environment such as, throwing trash out of place, causing the water flow to become blocked. This can cause the water to be started in a landfill that is getting more and more. When the water reservoir is no longer able to hold the water discharge, then the water will overflow out of the land and cause flooding

Note: the both this section is included in the sequence of explanation because this section describes the step-by-step process of natural flooding. and explain the causes of flooding.


Generic structure of explanation 

1. Title, Contains preparation or guides the reader to the text.

2. General statement, contains introduces or identify the topic of explanation text.

3. Squence explanation, contains step by step how or why the explanation text is happened.

4. Conclusion, The paragraph contains a summary of the entire explanation text, and according to the book our group read, the conclusion is optional.


The language features:

1. General Nouns and Terms:

The text uses general nouns like "flooding," "rain," and "earth" to introduce the concept of floods in a general way, making the content accessible to a broad audience.

2. Present Tense:

The explanation predominantly uses present tense verbs, like "occurs," "causes," and "flows," which are typical in explanation texts to convey ongoing, factual information.

3. Action Verbs:

The text uses action verbs such as "falling," "enters," "flows," "dragged," and "overflow," which describe the actions and processes involved in natural and non-natural flooding.

4. Cause and Effect:

The text includes causal conjunctions like "due to," "causing," and "when" to connect causes (e.g., human actions, blocked water flow) to their effects (flooding). This is a typical feature of explanation texts that seek to clarify why events happen.

5. Sequential Connectives:

Words and phrases like "furthermore," "after that," and "then" help organize the steps of the flooding process in chronological order.

6. Technical Vocabulary:

Terms such as "evaporation," "surface," "landfill," and "water reservoir" are technical words related to water and environmental science, helping to convey detailed and specific information about flooding.
