Analysis of Students' Difficulties in Understanding Procedural Texts in Listening Classes
This mini research is an analysis of students' difficulties in understanding procedural texts in listening classes. This research reveals that understanding procedural texts is essential for practical tasks in everyday life, such as following recipes or usage instructions. However, there are significant challenges for non-native language learners, particularly 11th-grade students in Kediri. Factors contributing to these difficulties include accent, intonation, speaking speed, and memory limitations, which are common challenges in listening comprehension. Additionally, complex language, the use of specific or specialized vocabulary, contextual understanding, and background knowledge are specific challenges in understanding procedural texts.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving in-depth interviews with students experiencing difficulties in understanding procedural texts. Data is analyzed using thematic analysis to identify the main themes of difficulties faced by students. Through this research, it is expected to gain an in-depth understanding of the obstacles hindering students' comprehension in listening to procedural texts.
